Essentially, just a bunch of villages that was administered alternately by Nepal and Sikkim. In mid 19th centuey, Darjeeling war grown by his own characteristic and climate.The British govt established first hill station after that lying it from the Chogyal of sikkim and later they discovered that this area was specially well situated for tea plantation.The british govt declare this area,In1849 and Darjeeling became a part of British India. In 1881 (it is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site), The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway was opened. when the Raj was governed from Calcutta than the Darjeeling  town became the de-facto summer capital of India during the days. A lovely Victorian town was built among the Himalayan foothills, the remains of which are still seen around the Chowrasta and Darjeeling remains a popular summer and fall resort for the residents of Kolkata today. For tourists,the main fascination are a variety of trekking options, the cultural diversity, the beautiful views, and the opportunity to cool down after a stint in the plains. The town is also a jumping off point for travelers heading to Sikkim.

The Darjeeling hill area is shaped of comparatively recent rock structure and it has a direct bearing on landslides. Heavy monsoon cloudburst makes to the landslides. Darjeeling hill areas have different kinds of soils,degree of slope, depending on elevation, vegetative cover and geolithology.
